The heart of MEIC’s strain gage ability and what sets us apart from the competition is our data acquisition system. Our eDAQ made by Somat Products Division is an extremely fast, rugged, stand alone system which can even be remotely operated via the internet. This high-level dynamic system lets us take up to 100,000 samples a second for each of the 64 independent channels. That’s a total of up to 6.4 million samples a second. With 64 channels, all able to simultaneously use different sensors, we possess the potential to obtain data from 256 different strain gages. The ideal strain gage would change resistance only due to the deformations of the surface to which the sensor is attached. However, in real applications, temperature, and material properties, the adhesive that bonds the gage to the object’s surface, and the stability of the metal all affect the detected resistance. Because most materials do not have the same properties in all directions, knowledge of the axial strain alone is insufficient for a complete analysis. Poisson, bending, and torsional strains also need to be measured. Each requires a different strain gage arrangement. MEIC’s experienced engineers are able to help you identify the most effective configuration for your strain gaging needs. We construct our Wheatstone bridges using best quality component circuits. These automatic bridge completion circuits allow us to set up multiple gage configurations quickly and efficiently by programming our system prior to the actual job either in the lab or on site. These modules support multiple bridge configurations all in one unit. This allows MEIC the ability to customize the gage setup to our customer’s needs. They also allow MEIC to condition the signal coming from the gages on the front end which ensures quick processing times for the huge amounts of information we can gather. |
Strain Gaging |
MEIC has experience putting strain gages on a variety of structures and products in a wide range of sizes. Using our technologically advanced system, we have measured strain in bridges, shafts, circuit boards, multi-tools, building foundations, and a multitude of other products. We have helped balance a 3.2 million pound draw bridge counterweight and tested server blade circuit boards. MEIC has the expertise and the technology to efficiently meet your strain gage needs.
